OURS VS. THEIRS
This photo is new paving of a parking lot that was done by the lowest bidder who quoted the project. Even if you don’t know anything about asphalt paving, something just doesn’t look right. I received a call from the property owner to come and evaluate the parking lot. I was asked to estimate the cost for a 5-year pavement maintenance program in an effort to "save" the life cycle of the asphalt. He later told me they were going to deduct the 5-year estimated maintenance cost from the Contractor’s bid price; since the scope of work was not properly met. I suggested he change his bids to read “Lowest and Best Bid”. It is so easy now to check a Company’s history, Google reviews, BBB rating and if they have any past or present “Contractor” legal issues; which should be considered in the bidding and awarding process. Don’t just go by nice-looking photos on a website; as with this contractor the equipment shown was not what showed up on the job site. Even if it is pavement repairs and maintenance, you should know what is the best scope of work and why it is needed. Call a few qualified Contractors and you may be surprised to learn you only need ½ of that work done, or an entirely more effective repair and maintenance solution; which doesn’t necessarily mean a more expensive project.

Question: “If you don’t have the budget to do it right the first time, when will you have the funds to re- do it correctly?”
Just Remember: “The bitter taste of poor quality, will be remembered long after the sweet taste of low price.”
